Infrared thermometers (IRTs), traditionally speaking, can provide instantaneous results in temperatures, but in many of today's IRTs, the sensors may require up to half an hour to stabilize when the temperature of the environment changes drastically.

Through many years of experience and testing in high-precision clinical infrared thermometer environments, where thermal shocks must be less than 0.2degC, ZyTemp has overcome this barrier.

Through a set of rigorous tests, ZyTemp has been able to craft its thermometers to sustain a high standard of thermal shocks. Under various highly volatile environmental conditions, ZyTemp's TN105 has outperformed its competitor's models, many of which carry a higher price tag than ZyTemp's products.

For example, the error due to thermal shock in one of our competitor's IRTs can reach up to 1.6degC, while needing 30 minutes to stabilize, while ZyTemp's TN105's error differential is a miniscule 0.7degC, needing only 7 minutes to restabilize.

This test that we performed can be easily duplicated by an amateur scientist, even if you do not have any professional blackbody equipment.

The following steps can show the error in thermal shock: Setup a very stable target. For example, fill a two liter bottle with water, let it sit in room temperature (~25degC) for a minimum of three hours. This will produce a thermal time constant of about 100 minutes.

Place the IRT outside (~15degC) for approximately one hour. Bring the IRT back inside to room temperature (~25degC). Measure the temperature of water in the bottle using the IRT every minute.
If you are using ZyTemp's TN105, you will discover that the temperature readings will only vacillate by ~0.7degC the first seven minutes, whereas other IRTs may show results that vary by temperatures substantially more over a longer period of time.
